Being able to sort in a dropdown field

I have different dropdowns in my application based on one only table.
At one position I would like to have the items in the dropdown sorted alphabetically.
At the second position in the application I would like to have the items sorted after the order of the item was added in the table the dropdown is based on.

You can only do the sorting now once: in the table itself with default Sort Field and Order inside the table settings.
You can filter the dropdown fields as taken from the table, but you can not sort them. That would be nice.

This would be very helpful for us, too. Some of our dropdown lists are quite long.
